Five-star Hibs down Swans
 Women's Football Club News - 22 Aug 2017
Hibernian made the best possible start to their UEFA Women's Champions League campaign with a 5-0 victory over Welsh Premier Women's League Champions Swansea City in their opening group match in Cluj.
Hibernian were quickly out of the blocks as the game began and opened the scoring with eleven minutes played. Shortly after having gone close with a header, Rachael Small gave them the lead via a neat finish past Gemma Border after being set up by Katey Turner.
Border denied Abigail Harrison with a good save but shortly afterwards, the striker got in again from Amy Gallacher's low cross and after her shot came back off the post, Turner reacted quickest to fire home the rebound.
Gallacher and Siobhan Hunter both went close but Hibernian were given a great chance to increase their lead shortly before half time when Joelle Murray was fouled in the area by Alicia Powe and a penalty was awarded. Lucy Graham stepped up to find the net and put Hibs three ahead.
Witts had a shot charged down at the other end but Hibernian took their three-goal lead into the break and made a similarly strong start to the second half. Three minutes after the restart, Harrison was brought down 25 yards from goal and Hunter powered the resulting free kick past a helpless Border and into the top corner for the fourth.
Turner saw a shot deflected wide as Swansea battled hard to not concede another goal but they were undone once more, with two minutes remaining, Graham hitting a shot on the turn into the roof of the net for her second on the day.
The other group game saw hosts Olimpia Cluj win 1-0 against Kharkiv and the teams are in action again on Friday, Hibernian will again have the early start against Kharkiv whilst Swansea take on Olimpia Cluj.
