Rhyl Ladies recorded the biggest victory of the opening day of the new Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League season, winning 5-1 away to newly promoted Caldicot Town.
Emily Jones hit a hat-trick to spearhead the victory for Rhyl and further goals came from Rachael Lloyd and Amy Webster, with Shauna Pentney grabbing a late consolation for Caldicot.
The other promoted team, Caernarfon Town, were also beaten on the day they made their return to the Premier League, going down 4-1 to Cardiff City. Siobhan Walsh opened the scoring for City just before the half hour mark and Shannon Evans added two further goals leading up to half time. Montana May rounded off the scoring six minutes from time, ahead of an injury time reply from Charlie Smith.
Abergavenny Women were the pacesetters for much of last season and they have started well this time around, beating Llandudno Ladies 4-2. Maxine Mudge and Kate Jeremiah ensured that they led by two goals inside the opening twenty minutes and in the second half, Jeremiah completed her double and Laura Jane joined her on the scoresheet before Katie Bowe and Kelsey Davies replied late on for Llandudno.
Port Talbot Town survived a second half fightback from Cyncoed Ladies before emerging as 3-2 winners. Port Talbot surged into a two-goal lead during the first half thanks to Rachael Ball and Terri Beddows, before Fern Burrage pulled one back for the home side from the penalty spot, midway through the second half. Jess Williams looked to have salvaged a point for Cyncoed when she equalised in injury time but there was a sting in the tail for the home side as Port Talbot grabbed a winner through Jessica Denscombe.
