The top two met each other in the Northern Division on Sunday and it was leaders Middlesbrough who were 1-0 winners away to Huddersfield Town.
Emma Kelly scored the only goal of the game on 57 minutes to take her team four points clear at the top of the table.
Nottingham Forest are up into second place after they defeated West Bromwich Albion 5-1. Albion did take a second minute lead through Leanne Mitchell but Trina Greaves responded quickly and Hazzana Parnell ensured that Forest were ahead at half time. Nicola Emery made it three and Natasha Hudson also got on the scoresheet, before Parnell rounded off the scoring with her second goal.
Leicester City Women and Fylde Ladies meanwhile battled out a goalless draw which leaves the teams in fifth and sixth place respectively, Fylde remaining unbeaten so far.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are off the bottom of the table following their 1-1 draw against mid-table Stoke City. Jade Cross put Wolves ahead with seven minutes on the clock, Cassie Hyde earning Stoke a share of the spoils when she equalised early in the second half.
Derby County recorded their second victory of the season with a 2-1 success away to Bradford City. Kelly Kennaugh and Georgia Hewitt netted the goals for Derby, with Abigail Lee grabbing Bradford's consolation.
