Women's Football English County and other Leagues News - 27 Oct 2017

Newcastle Utd went through to the Second Round of the Reserve Section League Cup with a 1-0 win away to Leeds Utd, Jessica Ellison scoring the only goal of the game. They have been joined by Huddersfield Town who were the winners of the other game, also by a 1-0 scoreline with Beth Allen on target.

Abbie Iddenden and Emily Curteis scored the goals as Stoke City won 2-1 away to Leicester City Women, a result which keeps them top of the Midland Division on goal difference from Cardiff City Ladies, who defeated third placed Coventry Utd 4-1 thanks to a Zoe Atkins brace, Sophie Thomas and Jasmine Turner. West Bromwich Albion meanwhile edged out Derby County by the odd goal in seven, Seanna McCann-Lloyd, Shannon Stamps, Marianne Taho and Shannon Kelly all getting on the scoresheet. TNS Ladies were 3-0 winners at Long Eaton Utd and Sporting Khalsa won for the first time, 3-2 against Burton Albion courtesy of Angelique Morley (2) and Rebecca Knight.

Southern Division leaders Portsmouth saw their advantage trimmed to four points as second placed C & K Basildon were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Wimbledon. Sophie Blowers was on target for C & K, with Hayley Clark replying. Charlton Athletic meanwhile entered the top three by beating Lewes 2-0 with goals from Lauren Parsons and Emily Ashcroft. Milton Keynes Dons registered their first points when they defeated Crystal Palace 2-0, Tayla Duffy bagging a brace.

One match was played throughout the FA WSL Development League on Sunday, in the Northern Division where Sheffield FC won 3-1 against local rivals Doncaster Rovers Belles to move into second place. Sophie Jones scored twice and Georgia Wilson the other for Sheffield.
