Addicks have edge over Rookettes
 Women's Football WPL South News - 18 Nov 2017

The top of the table clash in the Southern Division went the way of leaders Charlton Athletic, who won 2-1 away to Lewes to go five points clear.

The Rookettes took the lead on the half hour through Kelly Newton but goals in a five minute spell, midway through the second half, from Charlotte Lee and Charley Clifford, gave Charlton a vital victory.

C & K Basildon meanwhile ran out 5-0 winners over Cardiff City Ladies and this has taken them up into second place, just ahead of Lewes. Angela Addison kept up her good form by scoring twice as did Jay Blackie, with Danica Revell adding the other goal.

Crystal Palace made up ground on the top three by recording a 4-1 victory over Chichester City. Gemma Bryan and Nikita Whinnett ensured that Palace were two goals ahead at the break and Bryan went on to complete yet another hat-trick in the second half, with Cherelle Khassel netting Chi's consolation.

Coventry Utd got back to winning ways with a 2-1 success against West Ham Utd. Ellie Zoepfl put the Hammers in front after eighteen minutes but Helen Dermody equalised on the stroke of half time and Maz Gauntlett settled matters in Coventry's favour midway through the second half.

Portsmouth returned from Gillingham with a 4-0 victory under their belts and this result moves them back into the top half of the table. All of Pompey's goals came during the first half, Natasha Stephens opening the scoring before Molly Clark, Samantha Quayle and Shannon Albuery also got on the scoresheet.

* On Tuesday night, Cardiff City Ladies leapt out of the bottom three by winning 6-0 away to Swindon Town. Cori Williams led the scoring with a four-goal haul and Cardiff's other markswomen were Zoe Atkins and Jasmine Turner.
