Middlesbrough bounced back from their shock defeat to Bradford City seven days earlier to beat Derby County 3-1 and go six points clear at the top of the Northern Division.
Millie Bell and Emily Scarr put 'Boro two ahead inside the opening seven minutes and after Andi Bell had pulled one back for Derby on the half hour, Scarr made the game safe by completing her double late on.
Stoke City meanwhile made it five league wins on the trot with a 4-1 success away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and this has taken them level on points with second placed Huddersfield Town. Kate Asher gave Stoke and early lead which was doubled by Cassie Hyde and although Jennifer Anslow replied for Wolves, Hannah Keryakoplis restored the two-goal advantage on the stroke of half time and Faye McCoy wrapped up the win for her side with the fourth.
After scoring nine times against the league leaders the previous week, Bradford City were brought back to earth as they were beaten 3-0 by Blackburn Rovers. Natasha Flint netted a goal in each half and Lynda Shepherd was also on target to help Rovers step up their title challenge.
Fylde Ladies ended their run of three league defeats by scoring five times without reply away to West Bromwich Albion. Sophie Charlton netted two of the goals for the Coasters and there was one apiece from Lauren Davies, Leah Foster and Hollie Kelsh.
