Brighouse Town staged a dramatic second half comeback in their 5-2 victory away to Leeds Utd on Wednesday night, which keeps them firmly in the title race.
In the first half, Leeds looked set to continue their recent improved form and raced into a two-goal lead but five minutes after the break, Charlotte Proud renewed hopes for Brighouse by pulling a goal back. Aimi Beresford levelled the scores on the hour and five minutes later, Lauren Doyle put them ahead for the first time. Proud and Beresford then both completed their doubles to round off a crucial win for Brighouse which sees them catch up ground on the top two.
South West Division One
Larkhall Athletic got back to winning ways on Wednesday night with a 5-0 success in their local derby match against St Nicholas. The Larks took the lead through Lizzie Barratt and took a firm grip on what had been an evenly contested game midway through the second half when Barratt broke through to score. Kate German headed in a superb cross from Emily Harrington to make it three and Jodie Sheppard added the next goals from close range following a corner, before Barratt once again raced through on goal to score the fifth and complete her hat-trick.
The following night, two of the bottom three teams met each other with Brislington and Cheltenham Town battling out a goalless draw. Neither team had drawn a match going into the game and largely cancelled each other out on the night, the better of the chances going Cheltenham's way. The point does lift Brislington off the bottom of the table and they stay three points behind Cheltenham.
