Reading on a roll

WSL1 News - Reading on a roll - 30 Mar 2018 - Women's Football NewsReading FC Women 3 Yeovil Town 0
Reading FC Women earned their fourth FA WSL 1 win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Yeovil Town.

Fresh from a highly creditable draw away to Chelsea, Reading dominated possession and chances against the basement club who battled hard to contain the firepower of the hosts.

Indeed, Nicola Cousins nearly ended Yeovil's long wait for a goal in WSL 1 but her eighth minute 35 yard effort rebounded to safety off Mary Earps' bar.

That was as good as it got for the visitors. Kayleigh Green denied Reading with a fine clearance off the line and Megan Walsh was kept busy in the Yeovil goal, conceding then saving a Brooke Chaplen spot kick before Remi Allen opened the scoring on 41 minutes, forcing home a right wing cross.

Lauren Bruton doubled the lead shortly after the break beating two defenders to a through ball and poking a shot past Walsh. Yeovil defended bravely against a barrage of attacks, Walsh impressing with her handling and anticipation whilst Bow Jackson won numerous crucial challenges.

Substitute Kirsty Linnett added the third with a powerful header from an Allen cross after a corner routine on 78 minutes and Reading kept pressing forward, moving the ball impressively and getting plenty of width in their attacks.

After the early minutes, Yeovil were unable to relieve the pressure with any effective forward play themselves but worked hard and with some success to limit the impact of Reading's attacks as the Lady Glovers fell to a tenth FAWSL 1 defeat.
