Celtic have climbed to the top of the Scottish Building Society SWPL 1 table following their 2-0 victory away to Hamilton Academical.
Emma Craig gave Celtic the lead during the first half and Sarah Ewens wrapped up the win with the second goal late on.
Celtic were further boosted by the news that the two teams that started the day above them in the table, Hibernian and Glasgow City, battled out a 2-2 draw. Jamie Lee Napier put the home side ahead after 16 minutes when she converted a Emma Brownlie free kick past Lee Alexander. City responded soon after when Leanne Ross fired home from the spot after Leanne Crichton was fouled by Kirsty Smith in the Hibs area. The second half wasn't quite as fluent for either side and in the end it was goalkeeping errors which caused the late, late drama. Jenna Fife spilled a City corner with two minutes of normal time remaining and Donna Paterson fired into the back of the net for what most thought would be the winning goal. However, Abi Harrison had the last say when in stoppage time she crossed from out wide and her effort flew in at the back post over the head of Alexander.
Rangers leapt up into the top half of the table on the back of a 4-0 win against Stirling University. Sarah Robertson and Jade Gallon ensured that Amy McDonald's side were two goals ahead of half time and both players completed their doubles after the break to round off a convincing result for their side.
Spartans meanwhile registered their first league win of the season and are out of the bottom two after winning 2-0 away to Forfar Farmington. Alana Marshall put them ahead just before half time with a strike from 25 yards and Kaela McDonald-Nguah headed in the second midway through the second half.
