It was a red letter day for West Ham Utd on Sunday as they won their first national trophy when beating Luton Town 5-0 in the Premier League Plate Final at Hednesford.
The Hammers went into the game as favourites against their South East Division One opponents, who were also playing in their first major Final, and Luton defended well until the 25th minute when they were undone by a superb Amber Stobbs strike, an unstoppable 25-yard shot which crashed in off the bar.
Before Luton could recover, they found themselves two behind as Kelly Wealthall stole in behind the defence and slid her shot past Kezia Hassall.
Luton did go close just before the break when Jess McKay's shot was saved by Cara Connatser but two minutes into the second half, they found themselves with a mountain to climb when Ellie Zoepfl coolly finished.
Zoepfl also struck the post moments later as West Ham threatened more goals but despite the excellent Hassall making a string of five saves to keep her team in the game, the Hammers struck twice more, Rosie Kmita lobbing home the fourth and Zoepfl completing the scoring late on with her second.
