English County and other Leagues News - QK keep hold of Cup - 20 Apr 2018 - Women's Football News
QK Southampton retained the Hampshire County Women's League Junior Cup with a 6-0 victory over Hamble United in the first match of finals day, held at Winchester City FC.
The top two teams in Division 3 were more closely matched than the final score suggests, but QK were clinical in attack, notching three times in each half whilst Hamble struggled to hit the target.
Hamble goalkeeper Nikki Symons made a fine save from Yasmin Di Carluccio in the third minute but was beaten by Abbie Mason's 40-yard free kick for the opener four minutes later. Nikki Bowers nearly equalised for Hamble on a follow up effort after a fine save by Kate Ementon but drove a shot into the side netting from a tight angle.
QK extended their lead on 34 minutes when Beth Tidd finished well after breaking clear in a battle with defender Lucy Burridge. Jade Rodgers added the third soon after and QK went to the break with a comfortable advantage.
Any hopes of a Hamble comeback were hit within a minute of the restart when Di Carluccio broke clear and shot high into the net on 46 minutes. Bowers again went close to reducing the arrears but shot wide and further chances fell to subs Kirsty McCubbin and Michaela Mulgrew as Hamble continued to play a full part in the match.
QK added two more late on through Laura Golden and Tidd with her second, a neat near post finish, to complete a comprehensive win.
The final Hamble attack saw Flora Stevens clear on goal but a superb tackle by Maddy Eardley, later awarded player of match, kept a clean sheet for the victors.
QK Southampton: Kate Ementon, Maddy Eardley, Abbie Mason, Georgina Marks, Lauren Aldridge, Laura Golden, Adele Yeandle, Jade Rodgers, Kelly Bailey, Yasmin Di Carluccio, Eloise Paine. Subs: Beth Tidd, Elisha Boothman, Casey Taylor-Holloway, Hannah Jack, Joanna Perry.
Hamble United: Nikki Symons, Charlie Roberts, Charlie Drake, Lucy Burridge, Laura Parker, Amber Hemming, Nikki Bowers, Flora Stevens, Ness Mar-Molinero, Louise Jeffcoate, Tini Dade. Subs: Stacey McGurk, Michaela Mulgrew, Kirsty McCubbin, Samantha-May Gamble.
