Whilst nearest rivals Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City Women were involved in the Premier League Cup Final, leaders Middlesbrough were playing away to Fylde Ladies and went down to a 4-3 defeat.
Jenna Carroll hit a hat-trick for Fylde, who stay in sixth place, and Leah Foster added the other while Bianca Owens - with her hundredth goal for the club - Emma Foster and Tyler Dodds replied.
Derby County remain three points behind Fylde following their 2-1 success away to West Bromwich Albion. Andi Bell gave Derby the lead and after Natalie Murray equalised midway through the second half, Bell had the final say with an injury time winner.
Nottingham Forest ended a run of ten league games without a win by beating Bradford City 1-0. Hazzana Parnell scored the only goal of the game to bring Forest a welcome three points.
Wolverhampton Wanderers meanwhile took their unbeaten run to four games and are off the bottom of the table after winning 2-1 against Guiseley Vixens. Emily Heckler put Guiseley ahead early on and Jen Anslow equalised midway through the first half, before Charlotte Criddle scored late on to hand Wolves a vital victory.
On Tuesday night, Blackburn Rovers moved up into second place, one point behind Middlesbrough, with a 1-0 win away to Derby County. An own goal just before half time proved to be the difference on the night and provided a huge boost to Blackburn's title challenge.
