Kit bags four as Charlton lift title
 Women's Football WPL South News - 18 May 2018

After a number of near misses in recent seasons, Charlton Athletic clinched the Southern Division title on Sunday in style, with a 4-0 victory away to Crystal Palace.

The home side went into the game still having an outside chance of the title but a superb four-goal blast from in-form striker Kim Graham gave the Addicks the win they needed to be the Champions.

Charlton followed this up on Wednesday night with their nineteenth victory of the season, 8-1 against Gillingham. This time it was Georgia Griffin who led the scoring with a hat-trick whilst Kit Graham, on as a second half substitute, netted a brace to take her league tally for the season to 30. Kim Dixson, Charlotte Gurr and Charley Clifford added the other goals, with Jade Keogh grabbing the Gills' consolation.

C & K Basildon meanwhile took the runners-up spot by winning 1-0 at Chichester City. Zoe Rushen netted the only goal of the game to give C & K a result which takes them above Crystal Palace and secure the highest finishing position in their history.

Lewes look virtually certain to finish fourth following their 4-0 victory over Cardiff City Ladies. Danielle Lane scored a goal in each half for the Rookettes, whose others came from Rebecca Carter and Georgia Bridges.

Coventry Utd are finishing the season in fine goalscoring form and kept this up on Sunday by beating Gillingham 5-0. Stephanie Smith, Jade Brook, Lois Jefferies, Keeley Davies and Maz Gauntlett were all on the scoresheet for Coventry.

On Tuesday night, Coventry followed this up by scoring seven times without reply past Swindon Town. Lois Jefferies hit a hat-trick with Helen Dermody (2), Amber Hughes and Alison Hall added the other goals.

Portsmouth meanwhile ended their season on a winning note, beating Queen's Park Rangers 6-1. Samantha Quayle was on target twice for Pompey along with Charley Boswell, Daisy McLachlan, Rachel Panting and Emma-Jane May.
