Blackburn Rovers have been forced to do it all again this season in the National League after finishing on top of the division in each of the past two campaigns and they have started well this time around with a 9-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers Belles.
Saffron Jordan led the scoring with a hat-trick, Lagan Makin and Kayleigh McDonald each added a brace and there was one apiece from Natasha Flint and Lynda Shepherd.
It was an uncomfortable start for newly promoted Hull City as they went down to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Stoke City. Faye McCoy and Kelsey Richardson ensured that Stoke were two goals ahead at half time and they went on to seal the win with further strikes from Holly Chipman and Hannah Keryakoplis.
Derby County meanwhile got off to an impressive start with a 3-0 success away to Middlesbrough. After Nicole Ledgister gave them the lead in the tenth minute, Andi Bell added a second on the stroke of half time and Jodie Redgrave rounded off the scoring five minutes from time.
Nottingham Forest made it a good day for the East Midlands as they also won 3-0 against Bradford City. All of Forest's goals came during the second half, Charlotte Griffin breaking the deadlock just ahead of the hour before Amy Dicken and Georgia Hewitt also got on the scoresheet.
Huddersfield Town were another team to get off to a winning start and, along with Nottingham Forest, were the only home team to pick up all three points on the day. After a goalless first half, Katie Nutter gave them the lead midway through the second against Sheffield FC and Brittany Sanderson wrapped up the points late on.
Fylde Ladies returned from a difficult trip to Sunderland with a 1-0 victory under their belts. Emily Hollinshead scored the only goal of the game for the Coasters, eleven minutes before half time.
