Sandy MacIver saved two penalties in the penalty shootout as England edged host nation France to win bronze at the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Vannes.
The first half was goalless with Georgia Stanway twice having shots saved and at the other end, MacIver made a vital block after Annahita Zamanian had broken through on goal.
Within a minute of the restart, England were in front as Georgia Stanway found the opportunity to turn on the edge of the area and drill a low shot into the corner of the net.
However, Emelyne Laurent despatched a 68th minute equaliser from the penalty spot after Megan Finnigan was adjudged to have brought down Amelie Delabre inside the area.
Neither team was able to fashion a really clear cut opportunity from that point and the game went to penalties to decide who would take the bronze medal.
MacIver saved from Selma Bacha and Delabre, leaving Georgia Allen - who had come on as a substitute during injury time - to slot home the winning penalty and clinch third place at France 2019.
This is England's best ever finish at the biennial tournament and matches their best achievement in a FIFA tournament, just three years after the senior team also won bronze in Canada.
There was further reward for England players at the presentation ceremony following Japan's 3-1 victory over Spain in the Final. Sandy MacIver was awarded the Golden Glove for the tournament and Georgia Stanway the Silver Boot for finishing as second top scorer with six goals, one behind Spain's Patricia Guijarro.
