The entry of Manchester Utd into the FA Women's Championship has drawn much attention and their start to the season has sent an ominous message to the remainder of the league.
United travelled to Aston Villa for their opening match and ran out 12-0 winners, Jessica Sigsworth spearheading the victory with a five-goal haul. Lauren James and Kirsty Hanson weighed in with two apiece and the tally was completed by Katie Zelem, Mollie Green and Ella Toone.
Lewes were another new team to start well as they came back from Millwall Lionesses with a 3-0 victory under their belts. All of the Rookettes' goals came during the first half, Samantha Quayle giving them the lead with two minutes on the clock and they went on to add further goals through Rebecca Carter and Avilla Bergin.
On Saturday night, Durham Women notched up a fine 2-0 success away to Sheffield Utd. After a goalless first half, Becky Salicki put the Wildcats ahead just before the hour and Emily Roberts wrapped up the win with the second goal late on.
Two of the division's newcomers met each other at Crystal Palace and it was visitors Leicester City who went home with the points after a 2-0 victory. Melissa Johnson opened the scoring for Leicester after eighteen minutes and Holly Morgan secured the points with a quarter of an hour remaining.
The North London derby match went the way of Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 win against London Bees. Paula Howells put the Bees in front midway through the second half and they remained ahead until the final seventeen minutes, when Coral-Jade Haines and Josie Green both scored to turn the game in Spurs' favour.
