We talk to...Lauren Peck (Watford)
 Women's Football WNL South News - 29 Sep 2018

WNL South News - We talk to...Lauren Peck (Watford) - 29 Sep 2018 - Women's Football NewsAfter losing their WSL status during the summer, Watford have adapted well to life back in the FA Women's National League and a good run of four successive league wins, culminating with their 6-2 victory over Gillingham on Sunday, has taken them to the top of the Southern Premier Division table.

We talked to defender Lauren Peck, who joined the club during the summer, and she revealed that there is a good atmosphere around the team right now and insisted that they can only get better:

WSS: Congratulations on hitting top spot in the table, how good is it to see the club back up there once again?
LP: It's an amazingly good feeling, the atmosphere around the club at the moment is very good. We have worked hard and it's good to get the rewards.

WSS: Is there a buzz around the club again, especially after four straight wins in the league?
LP: We are feeling really positive at the moment and it definitely shows in training and in games, it's a professional atmosphere and we are all enjoying our football.

WSS: Did it feel like you had a point to prove at the start of the season in the league or was consolidation the initial aim for the team?
LP: We had a point to prove, 100%. Being one of two teams that came down from the then WSL 2, teams definitely have more motivation to beat us, but we know that and as a team we know we can never take any team for granted.

WSS: Helen Ward has been in good goalscoring form since the season began, how big a boost for the team is it to have a proven international striker?
LP: Helen has been great this season, not only as a player but as a captain. She gives vital experience in all aspects of the game. It's really good to have someone in the squad who you can look up to.

WSS: No game for you this Sunday but you are back in action in midweek against C & K Basildon, presumably the team can't wait for that game?
LP: The team are buzzing, especially for a midweek fixture under the lights. The atmosphere is so good at the moment, that we all look forward to every game week in week out.

WSS: Do you think that you can keep this run going and make a serious challenge for the title?
LP: We know as a team we still haven't reached our full potential, we have identified the areas to improve. If we carry on the way we are and work on those areas, we know we can definitely can challenge for the title.

WSS: Can you see the title race in your division being a close one with a number of teams involved?
LP: The National League is a very strong league. There are a few teams this season who I can see challenging for the title so it's definitely going to be interesting and a very close one.

Our thanks to Lauren!
