Whilst league leaders Blackburn Rovers were on County Cup duty on Sunday, their lead was halved to three points by the two teams immediately below them in the table.
Sunderland have moved back into second place in the table on goal difference after they defeated Derby County 5-2. Bridget Galloway led the scoring for the Wearsiders with a hat-trick and she was joined on the scoresheet by Georgia Gibson and Mollie Lambert, whilst Derby replied through Emily Joyce and Cara Newton.
Huddersfield Town meanwhile kept pace with Sunderland, thanks to a 3-2 success away to Sheffield FC. Milly Wortley gave Sheffield an early lead which was cancelled out on the stroke of half time by Brittany Sanderson. Katie Nutter and an own goal tipped the match Huddersfield's way after the break, despite a late goal from Holly Housley.
Middlesbrough climbed back above Hull City after winning their meeting 3-1. All of 'Boro's goals were scored by substitutes during the second half, Rebekah Bass netting twice and Eve Marshall adding the other, whilst Hull's consolation came from Jo Symington.
