Lewes appoint Alonso
 Women's Football FA Women's Championship News - 21 Dec 2018

FA Women's Championship club Lewes have announced that Fran Alonso will be their new manager, assisted by Simon Parker.

Fran Alonso was appointed following an exhaustive recruitment process that attracted applications from an incredibly high calibre of candidates.

Fran has been working for over fifteen years as a coach and Manager, six of them in the Premier League working for Southampton alongside Mauricio Pochettino and Everton as assistant coach to Ronald Koeman. The UEFA ĎA' licensed Spaniard has also enjoyed coaching spells at Everton Ladies and Southampton Women and most recently as Manager at Liverpool Feds who play in the National League, Northern Premier 1 Division.

Fran commented: "I am really looking forward to starting my work with the players. I want my players to reach their own full potential. The kind of football I grew up playing and watching and then coaching is possession-based and attacking. For me, there are no limits for this club."

Head of Football Stuart Fuller added: "We were fortunate to interview some of the best male and female coaches around. But when we met Fran, we knew this was someone who had all the attributes and passion we'll need to take this team to the top of the game."

Lewes FC Women's next match is away to Leicester City on January 6th. The first home match for Fran will be against London Bees on Sunday 27th January.

Fran Alonso's first signing as new First Team Manager is to bring in Simon Parker as his assistant.

Simon became Assistant Manager to Fran at Southampton Women in 2015. When Fran left at the beginning of the 16/17 season, Simon stepped in to the role of First Team Manager there. During his 42 league games in charge, the team won 37, drew 2 and lost on just 3 occasions.

Following the promotion season with Fran, Southampton Women achieved promotion again in Simon's first season and the following year finished runner up to Plymouth in their debut season in the FAWNL.

Simon commented: "I'm delighted to be joining Lewes. It's a club I have admired for some time, I have always been impressed with the values and real sense of community the club has and I'm excited to be working with Fran once again. There is great potential here and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
