The Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League returned to action on Sunday following its break for the holidays, with two games involving teams chasing after leaders Cardiff Met Women.
Abergavenny Ladies narrowed the gap on the Archers to four points with a 3-1 victory away to Rhyl Ladies. Lauren Davies gave Aber the lead midway through the first half, with the Lilywhites levelling the scores on the half hour through Alaw Davies-Smith. Lyndsey Davies ensured that Abergavenny went back in front, ten minutes into the second half, and Kate Jeremiah sealed the points with the third goal.
Cardiff City Women meanwhile moved themselves up to fourth place by winning 6-3 against Llandudno Ladies. An early strike for City from Danielle Broadhurst was quickly cancelled out by Aimee Todd but after Danielle Green had put Cardiff back in front only for Mari Gibbard to equalise, three goals in an eight minute spell from Siobhan Walsh, Green and Alana Murphy ensured that City were 5-2 up at the interval. Green crowned the win for her side by scpring her hat-trick goal with nine minutes remaining, before Gibbard netted an injury time consolation for Llandudno.
