Mole Valley 5 Wandgas 0
Mole Valley held a showcase of two of their talented teams at Surrey FA Headquarters to celebrate a new sponsor partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Dorking.
The first match saw the Under 15 team defeat Walton Casuals and then the seniors were in South East Counties League Division One West action against Wandgas, consolidating second place in the table behind runaway leaders Hassocks with an impressive 5-0 win.
Charli Blunt took centre stage with a four-goal haul but it was a sparkling Mole Valley team performance against a hard working Wandgas, full of energy and inventive combination play, allied to sound defending when needed.
Lily Turner had the first dangerous effort for the hosts, shooting just wide on 12 minutes. Wandgas skipper Maria King had an effort well saved by Ellie Hitchins whilst Rebecca Leadley was busy in the visitors' goal, saving from Ishbel Zuurmond, Molly Sadler and Leila Ayimba-Golding.
The opening goal came on 37 minutes when Blunt made a break down the left and finished well past the advancing Leadley. The same player added the second six minutes later by making space on the left edge of the area for a crisp low finish in the far corner.
Mole Valley continued to press on the restart, playing with impressive pace and energy to pin Wandgas in their own half for long periods. Sub Xayla-Rae Alberts sent a low drive against the post on 54 minutes and Amy Burgess converted the rebound for the third goal. Turner was twice denied by fine saves by Leadley, leaping to save a long range effort then turning away an inswinging corner at full stretch.
Alberts struck the woodwork a second time on 72 minutes and this time Blunt was on hand to complete her hat-trick. The hosts attacked relentlessly with Leadley again doing well to deny Zuurmond before Blunt rounded off the scoring, capitalising on a defensive slip for her fourth of the afternoon.
Mole Valley, in their first season competing in adult football, adding to numerous age group teams, are on a lengthy winning run in the league but Hassocks are still 100 per cent after 11 matches and are well placed for the Division One West title.
