Hibernian began their defence of the Premier League Cup with a tie against local rivals Hearts and made it through to the quarter finals with a 1-0 victory.
The SWPL 2 gave a good account of themselves but Hibs conjured up a fine goal seven minutes before half time to settle the tie, a good move finishing off with Kirsten Reilly firing in an unstoppable shot from 25 yards.
There were no surprises on Sunday as all of the SWPL 1 sides safely progressed into the last eight. Some were pressed harder than others though; Forfar Farmington were 2-1 winners over FC Kilmarnock. After a goalless first half, Cheryl Kilcoyne and Danni McGinley both netted in a five minute spell to put Forfar two goals ahead, before Samantha Hare pulled one back for Kilmarnock late on.
Stirling University were also pushed all the way by Glasgow Girls before booking their place with a 2-1 win. Ciara Bonner gave them the lead on the quarter hour, direct from a corner, but Glasgow battled back to equalise through Lucy McEwan after half time. The game was settled with ten minutes remaining as Abby Callaghan slotted home the winning goal.
Glasgow City had a much smoother passage into the quarter finals, scoring nine times without reply past St Johnstone. Hayley Lauder and Kirsty Howat both scored hat-tricks and they were joined on the scoresheet by Nicola Docherty, Jenna Clark and Sam Kerr.
Spartans were handed a tricky draw away to Hamilton Academical but a strong second half performance saw them to a 4-0 victory. Tegan Reynolds put them in front ten minutes after the break and Louise Mason added a second, before substitute Beth Mackay rounded off the win with a late brace.
Motherwell notched up the biggest win of the day with a thirteen goal blast against Hutchison Vale. Lori Gardner led the scoring wtith a four-goal haul, Mhairi Fyfe weighed in with a hat-trick, and the tally was completed by doubles from Caitlin Russell, Katie Rice and Chelsea McEachran.
Partick Thistle's first ever appearance in the competition saw them pitched against Rangers, who ran out 4-0 winners. All of the damage was done during the first half, Holly Napier giving Rangers a fifth minute lead before Carla Boyce netted twice, either side of a goal from Chelsie Watson.
Dundee Utd also made their Premier League Cup debut, a tough baptism at home to Celtic. Kathleen McGovern hit a hat-trick as the Ghirls won 7-0, Claire Crosbie netted twice and there was one apiece from Kirsty McLaughlin and Sarah Ewens.
