Manchester Utd closed the gap on leaders Tottenham Hotspur to two points by beating Leicester City 6-1 on Sunday.
Mollie Green gave United the lead on the quarter hour and Lauren James drove home a 20-yard shot for the second. Kirsty Hanson then scored with another long range effort to leave her side three up at the break. Ella Toone increased the lead early in the second half and although Libby Smith pulled one back for Leicester, Jess Sigsworth scored twice more to round off a good day for her side.
Durham Women moved up into third after beating London Bees 1-0. The first half was goalless and after Nicki Gears had a goal disallowed for offside, Durham made the breakthrough midway through the second half when Kathryn Hill drilled in a low shot for the only goal of the game.
Sheffield Utd ended a run of four straight defeats and picked up their first win since November with a 2-0 success against Crystal Palace. The Blades went close to opening the scoring during the first half when Ebony Salmon hit the bar with a shot on the turn but they did take the lead during the second half trough a neat finish from Jade Pennock. Just two minutes later, United were two ahead and Pennock turned provider on this occasion as her low cross set up Salmon to score from close range and put the seal on a deserved victory.
