Hibernian won the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup for the fourth time in succession as they got the better of Glasgow City on a penalty shootout, after the teams had battled out a goalless draw.
Hibs goalkeeper Jenna Fife was the heroine for her side as she saved two kicks during the shootout, before Cailin Michie slotted home the winning penalty for the Edinburgh side.
City went into the match in fine form, with a winning run which had taken them clear at the top of the league, and Fife was called into action early on with a save to keep out a shot from Clare Shine.
Hibs weathered the early storm and began to create chances of their own, Jamie-Lee Napier volleying a cross straight at Erin Clachers and a looping header from Rachael Small which dropped just over the bar.
Nicola Docherty went close with a header at the other end as the first half ended goalless, with Megan Foley having a shot deflected just past the post shortly after the restart.
However, this turned out to be a rare opportunity for either side as the second half was a much scrappier affair. Shine and Foley both fired efforts off target, whilst Clachers saved from Napier at the other end, but the game went into extra time with neither side being able to make a breakthrough.
The game suddenly opened up in the first period of extra time as both teams strove to break the deadlock. Hibs were the first to create an opportunity, which was headed over by Chelsea Cornet.
City hit back right away with Leanne Crichton driving a shot narrowly over the bar from distance. Shannon McGregor drilled just wide from the edge of the area for Hibs and Kirsty Howat tried her luck from 20 yards for City but her effort was off target.
Both teams continue to try hard to find a winner as the game went into the second period, but neither could get through. Hayley Lauder headed just wide for City and Shine missed the target with a close range header but penalties loomed large and a shootout was needed to separate the teams on the night.
It was the first time that the Premier League Cup Final had gone to penalties in its history but Hibernian's grip on the trophy was not to be loosened.
Fife pulled off saves from Hayley Lauder and Clare Shine and although she was beaten by both Leanne Ross and Leanne Crichton, Hibs had found the net with all of their three penalties taken by Siobhan Hunter, Rachael Small and Shannon McGregor. This meant that City's last kick would be academic if Cailin Michie scored and she found the roof of the net, to spark off Hibs celebrations and captain Joelle Murray was able to lift the trophy for the fourth time in a row.
