United finish on winning note
 Women's Football FA Women's Championship News - 17 May 2019

Champions Manchester Utd signed off from the campaign with their eighteenth victory, scoring five times without reply past Lewes.

Lauren James opened the scoring with eleven minutes on the clock and Jess Sigsworth made it two ahead of half time. After the break, Leah Galton increased their lead before Aimee Palmer and Amy Turner completed the scoring for Casey Stoney's side, who finished nine points clear at the top of the table and just short of scoring 100 goals in the league.

Tottenham Hotspur will be joining United in the top flight next season and they also finished well, with a 2-0 success away to Durham Women. After a goalless first half, Anna Filbey headed Spurs in front from an Emma Beckett corner and she repeated the feat deep into injury time to complete her double and leave her side with a five point margin over their nearest rivals.

Charlton Athletic have done very well in the league following promotion a year ago and finish in third place after they defeated Leicester City 4-0. Kit Graham gave the Addicks after just 48 seconds and after Liz Ejupi added a second early in the second half, in-form striker Graham netted twice more to complete her hat-trick and a good season for her team.

No team has finished the season in better form than Sheffield Utd, who made it seven wins on the trot when beating Millwall Lionesses 6-0. Ellie Gilliatt put the Blades ahead and Bex Rayner quickly added a second, with Ebony Salmon scoring from the penalty spot ahead of half time. Jade Pennock joined them on the scoresheet just before the hour mark, and United went on to crown the win as Salmon and Pennock both completed their doubles.

The points were shared as the other clash between Aston Villa and Crystal Palace finished goalless, the eighth draw that Villa have recorded this season. In a game of few chances for either side, Alison Hall went the closest to breaking the deadlock on the day when her header hit the bar late on.
