Newmarket Town 3 Histon 2
Newmarket Town lifted the Eastern Regional League Plate after defeating Histon 3-2 in the first match of the ERWFL Finals day.

An even and highly competitive match saw Newmarket, in their first season at Regional level, come from behind to defeat the holders through Jess Linger's second goal of the match on 74 minutes.

Newmarket started brightly and Annabel Cuthbert was twice denied by fine saves from Keeley Robinson before Linger opened the scoring on ten minutes with a powerful free kick. Histon responded well and were soon level when Kaya Haq netted with another fine free kick from wide on the right.

Newmarket's Sarah O'Rourke played Cuthbert in on goal with a well judged pass but Robinson was again equal to the shot. It was Histon who took the lead when Rebekah Finch was able to turn in the area and drive home a loose ball on 31 minutes.

Town went very close to equalising on 40 minutes through Antonia Smith but her shot flew to safety off the bar.

Cuthbert went close early in the second half but finally got reward for her very lively attacking play with the Town equaliser on 56 minutes, running clear on the left edge of the area to finish low past Robinson.

Newmarket looked the more dangerous as the match entered the final quarter. Laura Bailey went close to giving them the lead but it was Linger who found the net, this time curling a corner kick from the right directly into the Histon net.

Histon responded well to the setback, pressurising the Newmarket defence for much of the final fifteen minutes. However the Town defence was very solid and goalkeeper Dominika Szary very quick off her line to deal with danger. After several minutes of added time Newmarket were able to celebrate a hard earned win after a very good Plate final.
