 Women's Football English County and other Leagues News - 20 Sep 2019
The first matches in the Reserve League Cup were played on Sunday and this season, the competition is initially being played in a group format.
Middlesbrough were 4-1 winners at Leeds Utd in Group A, whilst Hull City defeated Bradford City 5-3 thanks to Ellie Tanser (2), Holly Dodsworth, Jo Symington and Jennifer Randall. Josephine Hewson hit a hat-trick and Holly Mattison added the other as Brighouse Town edged out Durham Women 4-3.
Chorley have got off to a good start in Group B, winning 2-0 at Crewe Alexandra with goals from Abbie Mackay and Ellie Mills. Kenzie Guido and an own goal gave Liverpool Feds a 2-1 victory over Burnley FC Women and Carra Jones scored the only goal of the game for Blackburn Rovers against Stockport County.
In Group C, Leicester City are the early leaders after scoring six times without reply past Lincoln City. Gracie-Mai Williams bagged a brace and she was joined on the scoresheet by Tara Kirk, Jessica Camwell, Zaiga Lacite and Grace Smith. Betty Cheetham scored a hat-trick for Barnsley in their 5-2 victory at Sheffield FC, Emily Pierrepont and Sheldon Ashton adding the others, whilst Emily Cahill was on target for Huddersfield Town in their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest, who replied through Claire Goater.
Ellie Wilkinson scored seven times whilst Emily Gillott and Ella Ritchie both weighed in with hat-tricks for Derby County in their huge victory over The New Saints in Group D. Millie Drinkhall and Naomi Lawrence each netted twice, with Danielle Oxley and Bethany Naqwi completing the tally. Sasha Woodhouse, Bethan Lewis, Chloe Shirley and Chantelle Teare steered Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 4-0 win at Loughborough Foxes.
Cardiff City Ladies notched up six goals against Bedworth Utd, to see them as the early leaders of Group E. Grace O'Reilly scored a hat-trick, Daisy Watkins added two and Sophie Whittle was also on target. West Bromwich Albion won 6-2 at Coventry Utd thanks to Leah Murray-Taylor (2), Alima Abdallah, Jessica Hood and Charlie Whitehouse, whilst Amy McLean, Charlotte Murphy, Rhianne Rush, Amber Tullett and an own goal took Milton Keynes Dons to a 5-1 success over Sporting Khalsa.
One match was played in Group F, Charlton Athletic beating Cambridge Utd 7-1. Melanie Parreno Espinosa was on target four times, Shamoy Campbell contributed a brace and Alexandre Bokotshi added the other goal.
Chloe Winchester accounted for both goals as Lewes won 2-1 away to AFC Wimbledon in the solitary game to take place in Group G.
In Group H, Crawley Wasps edged out Southampton FC by the odd goal in nine. Lauren Callaghan led the scoring with a hat-trick and Crawley's other markswomen were Rosanne Fine and Tia Perry.
