Women's Football English County and other Leagues News - 25 Oct 2019

The League Cup continued on Sunday with Durham Women moving themselves into second place in tight looking Group A with an 8-1 success at Bradford City. Rebecca Henderson and Mia Lawrence-Kay each hit hat-tricks with Amy Richardson and Ellie Smith adding the others.

Derby County have powered six points clear at the top of Group D after a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. Stoke City belatedly opened up their matches by scoring nine times without reply past The New Saints, courtesy of a Nuala Miszkiel hat-trick, Angelika Palasz (2), Sophie Garratt (2), Jordann Sloan and Tasia Brough.

Amy Gooderham netted twice and Amy McLean the other as Milton Keynes Dons defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-2 to go three points ahead in Group E. They lead from Coventry Utd who moved into second with a ten-goal blast against Cardiff City Ladies, Chloe Murphy finding the net four times along with Rhea Bailey (2), Zoe Creaney (2), Holly Chandler and Amelia Shiner.

In Group F, Norwich City got themselves off the mark when a Hannah Claughton double gave them a 2-1 win away to Cambridge Utd, who replied through Gemma Newell.

All four teams in Group H are level on three points, now joined by London City Lionesses after they ran out 4-1 winners over Crawley Wasps.

In North Division One, Middlesbrough took over at the top of the table when they won 3-1 against Chorley in the only match played. Eve Gatens netted twice and Lauren Farrow the other for 'Boro whilst Shannon Heffron netted Chorley's reply.

Leeds Utd U23 have gone three points clear in North Division Two after they edged out Barnsley by the odd goal in seven. Emily Sykes, Stacey Buxton, Megan Smith and Molly Lunn were all on target for Leeds, while Barnsley netted through Rebecca Fevers, Madison Foye and Georgina Wilson.

It was a similar story in Midland Division One where, such is the tightness of the early table, Loughborough Foxes made the remarkable leap from bottom place to top when they won 7-1 at Leicester City. Anna Renken hit a hat-trick for Loughborough, Emily Gunn added two and the tally was completed by Emily Sharpe and Simran Singh.

Crewe Alexandra have gone top of Midland Division Two after Grace Duckworth (2), Kiera Willdigg (2) and Shanice Finbow gave them a 6-2 victory away to Bedworth Utd. Previous leaders Sporting Khalsa were beaten 3-0 by Lincoln City, for whom Toni McHamilton (2) and Holly Wilson were on target.

Charli-Mae Goad led the scoring with a hat-trick as new South Division leaders Crystal Palace defeated Southampton FC 8-2. Aaliyeah Weise-Forbes netted a brace and there was one apiece from Ronnell Homes, Beau Parker and Morgan Searle. Lewes pipped Gillingham by the odd goal in nine to keep pace with Palace, Skye Bacon hitting a hat-trick along with Meghann Wingsutton and Georgina Bowen. Charlton Athletic U21 meanwhile won for the first time, 2-0 at Chichester City thanks to Maddie Reynolds and Shamoy Campbell.

One match was played in the South East Division, the top of the table clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Watford U23, which finished in a 2-2 draw with Hannah Coote and Petra Kos netting Watford's goals.
