There was significant action on and off the pitch in the SWPL 2 title race, firstly as the league ruled the match between Hearts and Hutchison Vale - originally awarded to Hearts - must be played and will take place this Sunday.
This means that Hamilton Academical have regained the leadership on goal difference, which they retained with a 5-0 victory over St Johnstone on the weekend. Nichola Sturrock netted twice inside the opening eight minutes, with Teigan McCann and Chloe Muir adding further goals ahead of the interval. Amy Anderson rounded off the win for the Accies from the penalty spot during the second half, whilst the result means that St Johnstone will finish in the bottom two.
With a game in hand, Hearts still have matters in their own hands in the title race and they stayed on course by beating Glasgow Girls 2-0, leaving them requiring four points from their final two matches. Aisha Maughan gave Hearts the lead on the half hour and Madelaine Edwards added the second goal, ten minute into the second half.
The other SWPL 2 game ended with honours even as Partick Thistle and FC Kilmarnock battled out a 1-1 draw. The first half was goalless but after an own goal had put Kilmarnock ahead midway through the second half, Thistle hit back for a share of the spoils when Mhairi Lyle equalised five minutes from time. The result means that by winning one of their two remaining games, Partick should secure themselves a highly creditable top three finish in their first season in the league.
