Hearts have taken themselves to the brink of the SWPL 2 title following their 14-1 victory against Hutchison Vale on Sunday. Danni McGinley and Rachel Walkingshaw led the spree by hitting a hat-trick apiece and Ashley Carse weighed in with a brace, and they were joined on the scoresheet by Danielle Pagliarulo, Louise Mason, Claire Williamson, Claire Delworth, Robyn Smith and Madelaine Edwards. In the other game, Partick Thistle's hopes of a top three finish took a knock as they were beaten 2-0 by Dundee Utd. Neve Guthrie gave United the lead on the quarter hour and Steffi Simson wrapped up the win with the second goal late on. The result means that, although Thistle remain in third place, United will finish above them if they win their final two matches. On Wednesday night, Dundee Utd followed up their victory against Partick Thistle with a 6-3 win over Hutchison Vale, which takes them into third. Neve Guthrie was the heroine for United as she spearheaded the win with a hat-trick along with Erin Ross, Keira Johnstone and an own goal. Hutchie, who scored three goals for the first time in the league this season, replied through a Dhana Wilson double and Angyl Learmonth.
