The new league season was kicked off on Friday night and saw Celtic beat Glasgow City 2-1 in their live televised clash.
Both sides deserve credit for providing a good match in appalling weather conditions and after a goalless first half, Clare Shine put City in front within two minutes of the restart from close range. Celtic's reply was quick and spectacular, Sarah Ewens curling home a shot from outside the area and then in injury time, Celtic grabbed all three points when captain Kelly Clark fired in following a corner.
The other newly full time professional team, Rangers, head the SWPL 1 table after the opening weekend as they defeated newly promoted Hearts 3-0. Megan Bell opened the scoring for Rangers after twelve minutes and the talented midfielder made it two on the hour. Kirsten Reilly wrapped up the win with the final goal, twelve minutes from time.
Last season's runners-up Hibernian got off to a winning start, 1-0 in their derby match against Spartans. It was in the third minute of injury time that the game was settled, Hibs captain Rachael Boyle slotting home the only goal of the match.
Things were tight as well at Forfar Farmington, where Motherwell were 1-0 winners. The game was decided with twenty minutes remaining, when Jordan McLintock scored for the Women of Steel.
