 Women's Football WNL Division 1 South West News - 25 Sep 2020
Eastern Region League
In the only match played in the league on Sunday, Wymondham Town notched up their second straight victory when beating AFC Dunstable 7-0. Laura Nicholls netted twice and she was joined on the scoresheet by Katie Knights, Rebecca Russell, Freya Symonds, Hannah Waters and Alice Collins.
London & South East League
The only action in the league took place in Division One South, where Newhaven got off the mark with a 1-0 win against Parkwood Rangers, Elle Douchossoy scoring the only goal of the game. After a heavy defeat in their opening match seven days earlier, Hassocks bounced back to register their first victory, 2-0 over Crawley Wasps DS thanks to Jess Craig and Mia Pordage.
South West League
Weston Mendip continued their excellent start in the Northern Division, staying on top of the fledgling table by beating Downend Flyers 7-3. Natalia Bak and Amy Clark both hit hat-tricks and Erin Duffy was also on target, with Downend's replies coming from Beth Pitman, Faith Flynn and Alice Baker. Bristol Ladies Union also made it two wins from two with a 6-1 success away to Cheltenham Town Development, Keira Madden netted twice along with Stella Gandee Morgan, Madison Price, Elizabeth Robinson and Rhianna Ben-Carew.
Forest Green Rovers are setting the early pace in the Eastern Division following their 5-0 victory over Frome Town. Cerys Jones, Holly Thomas, Sian Towler, Ashleigh Watson and Beth Edwards all scored a goal apiece to keep up Rovers' impressive start. Laverstock & Ford meanwhile began their season with a 1-0 win away to Swindon Town Development, Molly McCarthy netting the game's only goal just before half time.
The Western Division is already shaping up to be a closely contested one and Alphington remain in top spot despite going down to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Feniton. Stef Churchill-Matthews, Billie Denny and Natalie Matthews were Feniton's scorers, with Nadine Kelly and Catherine Wright replying. Nicola Champion netted twice and Lilly Burton added the other as Plymouth Argyle Development won 3-2 against Plympton Ladies, for whom Dionne Igalawuye and Abigail Fielding were on target.
West Midlands League
Leek Town kept up their winning start in the Premier Division as they defeated Coundon Court 6-2. Rehanne Mellor, Naomi Sale-Hancock, Katie Gibbons, Michaela Lockett, Lucy Goodfellow and Cassie Hyde were all on the scoresheet for Leek, with Rhiannon O'Looney netting twice in reply.
In Division One North, Shrewsbury Town claimed a second straight win when beating Coventry City 4-0, Madison Jones bagging a brace along with Hetty Arnold and Olivia Minshall. Stoke City Development won 6-3 against Walsall Ladies to join them on six points, Sarah Hassanin on target twice with Lily Jackson, Katie Naylor, Ava Suckley and Jessica Richardson adding the others.
One match took place in Division One South, an own goal giving Leamington Lions a 1-0 victory over Kingfisher and their first points of the season.
