Swansea City made an impressive start to their defence of the Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League title with a 3-0 victory over Cardiff City Women on the opening day of the season.
The match was the first in the WPWL to be televised live, being shown on S4C, and the Swans got off to the best of starts for them, taking the lead through Shaunna Jenkins with a minute on the clock. Stacey John-Davis gave them a firm grip on the game when she scored the second just before the hour and Chloe Chivers sealed the victory with the final goal.
Cardiff Met Women are the team which occupies top position after the opening round of games, following their 4-0 success away to Cyncoed Ladies. Shannon Evans gave them the lead just before half time and she went on to complete a hat-trick after the break, with Lauren Hutton-Townsend adding the other goal.
Newly promoted Cascade Youth Club's first ever match in the league ended in defeat as they were beaten 3-0 by Abergavenny Women. Sian Bull opened the scoring for Aber in the seventh minute and Mali Summers made it two from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time. Lyndsey Davies rounded off the win when she netted the third, eleven minutes from time.
Port Talbot Town were the other team to pick up maximum points on the opening day, thanks to a 3-1 victory over Aberystwyth Town. The damage was inflicted in an eight minute spell during the first half when Port Talbot scored all three goals, taking the lead through Jessica Denscombe and adding further goals from Lauren Amor and Courteney Thomas. Libby Issac netted a consolation goal for Aberystwyth, midway through the second half.
