Sherwood FC Women are gearing themselves up for their first ever appearance in the First Round Qualifying of the Vitality Women's FA Cup and a trip to West Midlands League side Redditch United on Sunday.
The East Midlands League club reached this stage with a 3-0 win away to Belper Town in the Preliminary Round and the Nottingham-based team, many of whom have played their whole career with Sherwood since they formed as a girls team, are relishing the opportunity.
"It's a historic game for us, first time playing in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and everyone's very excited to be on the road to Wembley," manager Jason Brooks told Women's Soccer Scene.
"We feel that we are the ultimate grassroots team, formed 15 years ago, going into our first season at Under-9s and moving up through the age groups. Many of the players have been with us from very young and we are now in our fifth year at open age, and promoted up to Step 6."
Keegan Brooks, who is in her fifteenth season with the team, added: "With the FA Cup tie to Redditch upcoming, we started the league campaign with a loss to Grimsby Town. Therefore, we've knuckled down to a high intensity training session and the players have all worked hard with lots of communication, as well as great ball play.
"The team are looking forward to our game on Sunday and hopefully, get a win to continue our FA Cup run."
Sherwood captain Hollie Dalling, another long serving player having joined fourteen years ago, said: "As this is the furthest we have managed to get in the FA Cup, I am very excited and looking forward to the challenge. I hope that we can prove ourselves on the pitch and show what we are made of."
