Dartford 7 Winchester City Flyers 1
Dartford moved impressively into the Second Qualifying Round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup with a 7-1 home win over Winchester City Flyers.
The London & South East Regional League hosts scored at regular intervals against their Southern Region League visitors with a fine variety of attacking play.
After a fairly even opening quarter of an hour, the Darts built up the pressure which led to the opening goal. A fine run through midfield by Shauni Griffiths led to a left side cross nodded on by Nicha Dyett for Emily Read to beat Lauren Higgs in the Flyers goal on 18 minutes.
Only a fine Higgs save prevented Griffiths from adding an immediate second and the bar foiled a far post header from Dyett on 24 minutes.
Read turned provider for the second on 27 minutes, her right wing run and cross controlled and converted at the far post by Alicia Gibbs. Flyers' first attempt on goal came from a Charlie Snelling free kick well held by Jade Charlton but it was a rare moment of danger.
Dyett added the third on 32 minutes, running on to a long through ball to finish low past Higgs but arguably the best of the half came courtesy of skipper Elizabeth Adams with a 25-yard drive on 39 minutes. Dartford still had time to hit the bar again, this time with a Griffiths far post header in a dominant first half display
Flyers nearly reduced the deficit right from the restart from a Lydia Moulding header which drifted just wide and the visitors had their best spell of the match in the first 20 minutes of the second half, keeping the lively Darts attack at bay.
It took a superb series of passes to open up the defence and draw a foul for a penalty which substitute Rachel Stevens converted on 71 minutes. Keeper Higgs had been injured in the first half and bravely carried on but a second knock forced her off and Snelling took over the gloves.
Another sub, Sacha Brinkley added the sixth from distance on 78 minutes then an own goal from a right side cross closed out the Darts scoring on 84 minutes.
Flyers, who had never stopped competing and trying to play passing football, got a consolation goal their efforts deserved with a Libby Wilkinson shot from distance but Dartford had given a highly impressive performance throughout to power into Monday's draw, where they were paired with Eastbourne Town.
