Glasgow City progressed to the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Women's Champions League on Wednesday night, but only after having been taken all the way by Peamount Utd.
City, who reached the quarter finals of last season's competition before going out to eventual runners-up Wolfsburg, needed to negotiate a penalty shootout against the Republic of Ireland title winners after he match finished in a goalless draw.
In the end, the shootout was also a tense one, going all the way to 6-5 in City's favour before Lee Alexander produced the crucial save which took her side into Friday's draw.
However it was not such a good night result wise for the other British teams in action. Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League title holders Swansea City travelled to Cyprus to face Apollon Ladies but despite a spirited display, went down to a 3-0 defeat. Former Blackburn Rovers striker Rio Hardy gave Apollon a fifth minute lead, before Krystyna Freda went on to add the other two goals for the home side, whose squad included two other English players in Katie Lockwood and Steffi Hardy.
Linfield faced a very tough test away to Belgian champions Anderlecht and the home side proved to be too strong, running out 8-0 winners including two from former Manchester City forward Tessa Wullaert.
