Aston Villa moved out of the bottom three places of the Barclays FA WSL on Wednesday night with a crushing 4-0 victory over Bristol City at Twerton Park.
The first half did see few chances with Villa having the better of possession but the deadlock was broken three minutes before half time, when Ramona Petzelberger slid in an Emma Follis cross at the far post. Charlie Wellings twice went close for City after the break but Shania Hayles broke through to score Villa's second moments later. Petzelberger then scored a near identical goal to her first with another far post finish, and Haynes rounded off a good night for her side by also completing her double with an angled finish after being set up by Follis.
Also on Wednesday night, Leicester City became the second FA Women's Championship side to be assured of a quarter final place in the FA Women's Continental Tyres League Cup when they defeated Birmingham City on a penalty shootout after the teams had fought out a goalless draw. Aimee Everett scored the winning goal from the spot to guarantee her side top spot in Group E.
