Bristol City can confirm the appointment of Lauren Smith as Interim Head Coach ahead of the 2021-22 FA Women's Championship season.
33-year-old Smith returns to Bristol City where she was previously First Team Assistant Coach and Technical Director for the Under-9 to Under-19 youth programmes.
Smith's coaching journey in the West Country began back in 2010 when she came on board as Under-14s coach, before progressing through the age groups and transitioning into her role with the Bristol Academy first team in 2014.
She took charge of the first team on a caretaker basis midway through the 2015 season following the departure of Dave Edmondson, until Willie Kirk was appointed to the post.
As a promising young coach, Smith enjoyed success during her time with the club, most notably City Women's return to the WSL and overcoming Arsenal to win the Development League.
After seven years at the club, Smith joined FA Wales in 2017 as Assistant Coach to Jayne Ludlow as well as managing Cardiff City Ladies in the FA Women's National League, guiding them to the runners-up spot in the Southern Premier Division in the 2018-19 season. Most recently, she was named assistant to Rehanne Skinner at Tottenham Hotspur in January 2021.
