Villa sign six
 Women's Football FA WSL news - 9 Jul 2021

Aston Villa have been busy in the summer transfer market with six players joining the club for the start of the next Barclays FA WSL season.

New manager Carla Ward has wasted no time in strengthening her squad which fought a successful battle against relegation in the season just finished.

Remi Allen has joined the club after helping Leicester City win the FA Women's Championship last season whilst Hannah Hampton and Sarah Mayling have followed Ward from her previous club, Birmingham City. Meaghan Sargeant joins from Bristol City, while Alisha Lehmann and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah have been signed from West Ham United and Everton respectively.

Speaking to the Aston Villa FC website, Carla Ward said of her new signings: "When signing Remi became a possibility, it was a no-brainer. She is one of the WSL's most experienced players, but most of all is an out-and-out leader. Remi will bring a wealth of experience to help us achieve what we want to achieve and is a really important addition.

"Alisha comes with both experience and an unbelievable amount of potential. At 22, Alisha has already shown in recent seasons that she can light up any WSL game. I'm delighted she's put pen to paper and I'm looking forward to working with her. Alisha's a really exciting addition to the group.

"Hannah is up there with the best goalkeepers in the WSL. She is a really gifted individual who can play with both feet and is comfortable under pressure. Her ambition is to become England's No.1 and hopefully we can continue to develop her and help her achieve that.

"Having worked with Sarah last season, I've seen the quality she possesses. She's athletic, versatile and can make things happen wherever she plays.

"Meaghan is a strong leader who can play off both feet and is athletically strong. Having had a frustrating year with injury, this is a big season for her and we look forward to seeing what she can bring to this squad.

"Chaney is an exciting talent who has an abundance of pace and quality. She will add a real threat in front of goal and we're delighted to get her signing over the line."
