City first into last eight
 Women's Football Scottish WPL News - 17 Aug 2021
Glasgow City are the first team assured of a place in the quarter finals of the Scottish Women's Premier League Cup following their following their 4-1 victory over Spartans on Sunday.
Ode Fulutudilu scored twice, with Mairead Fulton and Clare Shine adding the others, to ensure that City will finish in the top two in Group C with one match to play whilst Spartans, who still have a chance of joining them, netted a late consolation through Rebecca Galbraith.
Hamilton Academical are the team currently in second place in the group after they defeated Glasgow Women 3-0. Josephine Giard, Rachel Ross and Megan Quigley all netted a goal apiece for the Accies.
Rangers seem to have all but qualified from Group A after winning 5-0 against Motherwell. Brogan Hay netted a first half brace and Lizzie Arnot a goal in each half, with Jane Ross joining them on the scoresheet.
Aberdeen have also put themselves on the brink of going through, thanks to a 4-0 success away to Queen's Park. Eva Thomson and Bayley Hutchison each bagged braces to keep the Dons level on points with group leaders Rangers.
Dundee Utd's goal laden start to the new campaign continued as they ran out 7-1 winners away to Stirling University in Group B. Although their ten-goal blast against Forfar Farmington in their first game has been wiped from the records due to Farmington's subsequent withdrawal, United kept up their good form in front of goal as Danni McGinley hit a hat-trick, Tammy Harkin weighed in with a brace, and one apiece came from Jade McLaren and Steffi Simson.
Celtic are another team who are virtually assured of a place in the last eight, opening up a lead of three points in Group D by defeating Hearts 2-0, Tegan Bowie and Kathleen McGovern scoring their goals.
Things remain close for second place in the group, Partick Thistle putting matters in their hands with a 4-0 victory away to St Johnstone. Teigan McCann was on target twice, with Cheryl Rigden and Cara McBrearty adding the others to complete a memorable week for Thistle following the news that they have been promoted to SWPL 1.
