Cityzens make swoop for Grace Clinton
Manchester City have completed the permanent transfer of England international and Euro 2025 winner Grace Clinton from rivals Manchester United, with the midfielder signing a contract until the summer of 2029.
The announcement, made on the Manchester City official website, sees Clinton join as one of the Women’s Super League’s (WSL) most promising talents, set to wear the number six shirt at the Joie Stadium.
Clinton, who began her professional career at Everton, broke into the Toffees’ first team at 17 before moving to Manchester United in 2022. Loan spells at Bristol City and Tottenham Hotspur followed, with her standout performances at Spurs earning her the PFA Women’s Young Player of the Year award for 2023/24. She was also named in the PFA WSL Team of the Year, as voted by her peers, after being recognised as Bristol City’s Young Player of the Year the previous season.
Back at United for the 2024/25 campaign, Clinton made 28 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals—second only to Elisabeth Terland. On the international stage, she played a key role in the Lionesses’ historic triumph as the first senior England side to win a major tournament on foreign soil at Euro 2025.
Speaking to the Manchester City official website, Clinton expressed her excitement: “It feels amazing. I’m so excited. I love the way Manchester City play, and it’s been tough to play against them in the past so I’m excited to be here and meet the girls. City, for me, has always played an amazing style of football. Keeping the ball, it looks lovely, and there are amazing players [here].”
Manchester City Women Director of Football, Therese Sjogran, also shared her enthusiasm on the club’s website: “We’re really pleased to have been able to bring Grace to Manchester City – she’s a player we have admired for a while now. She is still a young player but already has a lot of experience under her belt, and we believe she will fit in seamlessly with our style of play and add to the talented squad we already have. We’re very much looking forward to working with Grace over the coming seasons and seeing her make her mark in a Manchester City shirt.”
Clinton’s arrival bolsters an already formidable City squad as they aim to challenge for WSL and European honours in the coming seasons.
