England put seven past Jamaica

England 7 (Toone 10,49, Bronze 32, Stanway 59, Russo 71, Beever-Jones 85, Mead 90)

Jamaica 0

In their last preparatory match before UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, England delivered a commanding 7-0 victory against Jamaica at

Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

Ella Toone led the charge with a first-half brace, supported by goals from Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway, Alessia Russo, Aggie Beever-Jones, and Beth Mead. Jamaica had a goal disallowed for offside when the score was 1-0, but a depleted Reggae Girlz side was unable to match England’s relentless pace.

The reigning European champions, set to face France on Saturday 5 July in their tournament opener, showcased their readiness in this East Midlands rout. England asserted dominance early, with Jess Carter nearly scoring in the sixth minute after a sharp one-two with Lauren Hemp, only to be denied by Jamaica goalkeeper Liya Brooks’ fine save.

Toone broke the deadlock shortly after, firing a deflected shot into the top corner following Stanway’s build-up play. Jamaica responded with a potential equaliser from Kayla McKenna, but a VAR review ruled it out due to Kiki van Zanten’s offside position obstructing England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.

Carter’s timely challenge thwarted another Jamaican chance, and she later combined with Hemp to deliver a precise cross for Bronze, who headed home to make it 2-0 on 32 minutes. England hit the woodwork twice through Hemp and Russo before Toone’s second goal, a clever scoop in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time, extended the lead.

England maintained their intensity after the break. Stanway smashed in the fourth goal just before the hour mark after Toone’s shot was saved. Manager Sarina Wiegman’s triple substitution on 63 minutes, including Lauren James, proved decisive. James set up Russo’s header for the fifth goal and later assisted Beever-Jones, who slid in to score. Mead capped the performance with a seventh goal in the final minute.

Despite Brooks’ heroics, including a stunning double save to deny Beever-Jones, Jamaica could not stem England’s attacking tide. The result sends a strong message as England head into their title defence brimming with confidence.
