Everton pay club record fee for Mace

Everton have bolstered their squad with the signing of England international Ruby Mace from Leicester City on a three-year contract for a club-record fee.

The 21-year-old midfielder marks the ninth addition to Brian Sorensen’s side this summer, as the team prepares for a historic inaugural season at Goodison Park under the ambitious backing of new owners, The Friedkin Group.Mace, who will don the number 30 jersey, expressed her excitement about joining the Toffees, highlighting the club’s vision and the opportunity to play at Goodison as key factors in her decision.

“It is a great feeling to join Everton,” she told evertontv from Goodison Park. “It is unreal that this is going to be the home of Everton Women. I am so excited to get started. I feel so at home here, the girls are lovely. Everyone is just backing everyone and I just can't wait to get started on the pitch.”

She also praised the club’s ambition, noting, “I said to my parents when I first heard about Everton, how the owners making Goodison the Women’s new home shows just how much they are backing the team. It means so much to everyone.”

A versatile player capable of operating as a defensive midfielder or in central defense, Mace earned her senior England debut in December 2024, starting in a 1-0 victory over Switzerland. Having progressed through England’s youth ranks alongside new Everton teammate Katie Robinson, Mace is determined to secure a regular spot in Sarina Wiegman’s European championship-winning Lionesses squad. Mace also expressed enthusiasm for working under Sorensen, citing his passion as a standout quality.

Sorensen, equally thrilled with the acquisition, praised Mace’s talent and character. “I am delighted to have signed Ruby,” he told evertontv. “She is a top talent and was rewarded for her brilliant form at Leicester with a call-up and debut for England. Ruby is a very humble character and will be very popular with her new team mates. She has told me how excited she is to play in front of our fans at Goodison Park and make history at our new home.”

As Everton gear up for their landmark campaign at the iconic Goodison Park, Mace’s arrival signals the club’s intent to compete at the highest level in the Women’s Super League.
