FA Cup Richmond ‘Clasico’
Richmond & Kew 3 Richmond Park 0
Richmond and Kew notched a memorable 3-
A superb hat-
There was little to suggest that one side would dominate from the very tight and even opening 25 minutes where the visitors were marginally the better team with Jas Syed making good runs down the right and Park winning several corners.
The closest Park came to taking the lead was when home defender April Riley cleared a goalbound effort off the line on 26 minutes.
It was keeper Scott Murray who created the opening goal on 31 minutes with a catch and quick clearance which left Close clear to shoot past Park keeper Mia Patten.
A fine Patten save denied Hannah Curwen as Richmond and Kew started to dominate. Home skipper Rosie Hilton and her fellow defenders were faultless in their tackling and covering throughout and provided a solid base for an outstanding second half display from the Greater London League Premier Division side.
A superb through ball released Close to lash in a powerful second on 64 minutes and although Patten made a couple of brave saves and Catherine King somehow brought off a diving block on the goalline to deny the hosts a third Richmond and Kew kept the pressure on right to the end.
The Close hat-
Richmond and Kew had not won an FA Women's Cup tie before this season but now go into the draw for the Third Qualifying Round with the FAWNL Division One clubs entering the draw. They have learned that they have been drawn at home to FAWNL side Maidenhead United.
