FAW release women’s & girls strategy update

In 2021, the Football Association of Wales (FAW) launched its first-ever Women and Girls’ Strategy, “Our Wales: For Her”, a bold six-year plan aimed at transforming the landscape of women’s football across Wales.

The strategy is designed to inspire women and girls to be their best selves, whilst encouraging more to play, volunteer, and follow the game, detailed in the following strategic vision and mission:

Our Vision

Inspire confidence in women and girls to become their best selves.

Our Mission

To create the best possible environment, support structures, and opportunities that will accelerate the growth of women’s football in Wales, helping it achieve its full potential.

Strategic Targets

Within the strategy, the FAW set five ambitious targets:

  1. Double the Participation – Increase the number of registered participants to 20,000.
  2. Double the Fanbase – Increase attendance at National and Domestic games.
  3. Double the Investment – Secure greater financial backing for the sport.
  4. Cymru on the World Stage – Qualify for a first major international tournament.
  5. Representation – Achieve 40% Gender Parity on the FAW Board.

Following the 2023-24 season, the FAW is proud to share progress updates across all these key targets:

FAW Senior Women & Girls Grassroots Manager said: “There has been significant growth across all areas of women’s and girls’ football in Wales over the past three years. The support from key stakeholders has been instrumental in elevating the game to new heights. We’re excited to continue this journey, ensuring that every woman and girl in Wales has the opportunity to thrive in football.”

FAW Chief Executive Officer Noel Mooney added: “We are thrilled with the rapid growth of the women’s and girls’ game across Wales. The Our Wales: For Her strategy is

ambitious, and the progress made so far is monumental. The FAW is committed to building on this success and reaching even greater heights.”
