Farnham on another Cup run
Farnham Town 7 Eastbourne Borough 1
Farnham Town soared into the First Round proper of the Adobe Women's FA Cup with an astonishing 7-
On paper, this was a close contest between teams with 100 per cent win records in parallel leagues in Tier 6 but from the moment Maya Adams opened the scoring on 4 minutes with a solo run right through the visiting defence, it was Farnham's day.
Eastbourne Borough, top of the London & South East League Division One South, were hit by a first half blitz from the Farnham attack which could have have had more than the four goals they notched before the break. Visiting keeper Sophia Moule kept the score in check with several fine saves to bail out her team and deny Adams, Iesha Swaby and Cesca Thornton. As it was, Swaby scored the second on 12 minutes, then Echo Barrett scored a superb third from distance on 19 minutes.
When Adams tapped in the fourth after a scramble on 22 minutes it was scarcely credible as Borough had looked good going forward themselves, putting the home defence under pressure on several occasions but lacking the cutting edge of the hosts. Molly Hill had a shot just over the bar and a Charlotte Gurr corner led to a scramble before home keeper Mya Pownall saved.
Borough did pull a goal back after the break after a lively start to their second half. Kellie Larkin rewarded the enthusiastic travelling support with a well taken shot from the edge of the area after a good spell of pressure but this breakthrough was soon countered by Farnham's fifth, scored by Efro Theocharous on 56 minutes. The contest became more even as the visitors battled bravely to narrow the deficit but the home team were not to be denied as two of their substitutes scored. Emily Foss took the ball round keeper Moule before finishing from a tight angle on 77 minutes, then Rebecca Price rounded off the scoring from the edge of the area to complete a fine victory.
Farnham Town were rewarded with another home tie in the First Round against Leyton Orient on October 26th.
