Farnham’s festive feast

Farnham Town 8 Guernsey 1

Farnham Town finished 2025 on top of the Southern Region League Division One South table with a 100 per cent record after an 8-1 victory over Guernsey.

The visiting Green Lionesses have made a decent start in their first venture into the women's football pyramid but were hit by a rampant home team who scored five times in the first twenty five minutes after the break.

Farnham scored early through a powerful strike by Iesha Swaby on five minutes and continued to create chances right through the opening period. A combination of brave goalkeeping, committed defending and wild shooting kept Guernsey in the game in the first half.

Rachael Manley added a second on 26 minutes but unfortunately Guernsey keeper Alana Hockey sustained an injury in trying to keep the effort out and was replaced by Kayleigh Marquis who continued to defy the home attackers till half time.

From the moment Emily Foss scored with a super shot in off the post 30 seconds after the restart Farnham had an inspired spell. Foss herself scored four including another fantastic finish on the volley but this was a team effort with Manley, Nicole Leys and Swaby all providing pinpoint crosses to set up chances for Foss and Francesca Thornton who added to Guernsey's woes.

The visitors had always sought to attack whenever possible but were well marshalled by the Farnham defence until the 76th minute when Eleanor Jamieson forced an error to set up Codie Le Flem for a consolation goal.

Hockey was able to resume her position between the posts for the Islanders but saw one final effort from substitute Echo Barrett complete the scoring and round a very successful 2025 for the hosts. Guernsey are a welcome addition and will continue to grow and develop with experience against the variety of opposition in this league.
