Genero Adran Leagues
Cascade Youth Club caused an upset in the Genero Adran Trophy when they defeated Cardiff Met Women 1-0, to book their place in the quarter finals.
Chrystalla Moreton scored the only goal of the game, ten minutes before half time, to give the Genero Adran South side a surprise victory against their Premier opponents.
Holders Cardiff City Women are through to the last eight, after a narrow 2-1 success away to Connah’s Quay Nomads from the level below. Laura Curnock opened the scoring for the Bluebirds after seventeen minutes and Nieve Jenkins made it two, early in the second half. Anna Marsh pulled a goal back for Nomads in injury time but it was not quite enough to stop City from moving a step closer towards keeping their hands on the trophy.
Swansea City meanwhile enjoyed a smoother passage by running out 4-0 winners over Llanfair Utd. The Swans led at half time through a goal from Aimee Deacon but it wasn’t until the final twenty minutes that they were able to put the result beyond doubt. Chloe Chivers doubled their lead and they went on to seal the victory with further strikes from Emily Thomas and Emily Richards.
The New Saints continue to have a good season and they recorded the biggest victory of the round, 6-1 away to Caldicot Town. Lexi Jones gave TNS a first half lead which was cancelled out just before half time by Rianne Jones, but Chantelle Teare made sure that the visitors were back in front by the interval. Caitlin Chapman made it three, early in the second half, before Teare went on to net twice more and complete her hat-trick, either side of a goal from Lia Lewis.
Two late goals by ten-player Barry Town Utd saw them negotiate a difficult tie against Flint Town Utd, coming from behind for a 4-2 victory. The first half was goalless but things were made much trickier for Barry when Lauren Harris was shown two yellow cards, and Flint went ahead through Jennifer Haynes, nine minutes after the restart. Erin Murray got Barry back on level terms but Rosie Hughes put Flint back in front almost straight away, with Murray netting a second for Barry before they went on to secure a hard earned victory with goals from Jasmine Turner and Ellie Preece.
Briton Ferry Llansawel eased into the quarter finals, thanks to a 4-1 win against Penybont Utd. Maia Owen got Ferry off to a great start when she gave them the lead in the third minute, but Penybont kept themselves in the game until Alison Witts made it two from the penalty spot, just before the hour. Casey Daniels gave Penybont renewed hope when she pulled a goal back but any further hopes were ended when Ferry made the game safe thanks to Lucy Powell and Aimee Heath.
Wrexham made the trip south to face Cwmbran Celtic and returned home with a 4-1 victory under their belts. Olivia Fuller gave Wrexham an early lead which was quickly cancelled out by Jade Crofts, but in the second half, Wrexham began to assume control and Amber Lightfoot put them back in front. Abbie Iddenden made it three, midway through the second half, with Lili Mai Jones rounding off the scoring deep into injury time.
Aberystwyth Town meanwhile gave themselves a huge confidence boost by winning 4-2 away to Genero Adran North leaders Llandudno. Lleucu Mathias put Aber in front after four minutes and after Sofie Owen levelled matters midway through the first half, Jessica Baker restored the visitors’ advantage ahead of half time. Kelsey Davies brought Llandudno back on terms once more after the break, but this time Aber were able to get on top and goals from Lleucu Mathias and Imogen Scourfield gave them the victory.
