Genero Adran Leagues
Wrexham were crowned Genero Adran Premier champions for the first time in their history after an emphatic 4-1 victory over Cardiff City at the SToK Cae Ras on Sunday.
Cardiff took an early lead in North Wales, with Mikayla Cook curling a superb free kick from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner after just six minutes, giving Wrexham goalkeeper Lizzie Craven no chance. However, the hosts were handed an equaliser in first half stoppage time when a clearance from Cardiff goalkeeper Ceryn Chamberlain was charged down by Katie Barker, who had the simplest of tasks to tap the ball into an empty net from a yard out. Wrexham seized control after the break and completed the turnaround just three minutes into the second half. Faye Knox’s low cross took a deflection and fell perfectly for Barker, who produced a composed first time finish into the bottom corner.
Jenny Sugarman’s side extended their advantage late on when Knox latched onto a pass from Rosie Hughes and unleashed a powerful strike past Chamberlain. Barker then sealed her hat-trick by calmly converting a penalty after Helen Evans fouled the league’s top scorer inside the area. Cardiff almost grabbed a late consolation as Madison Lloyd’s clever flick from a Cook cross struck the bar. Their frustrations were compounded in the 87th minute when Shannon Evans received a straight red card for denying Barker a clear goalscoring opportunity. Wrexham celebrated their maiden Genero Adran Premier title at full time alongside a vocal crowd of 2,918 and the Red Dragons now look forward to representing Wales in the UEFA Women’s Champions League next season.
The New Saints claimed their first win since the split with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium. Saints goalkeeper Orla Howard was in outstanding form, producing vital saves to deny Chloe Chivers and Stacey John – the latter playing her final home match for the Swans alongside teammate Steph Turner, with both set to retire at the end of the season. Lexie Harrison came agonisingly close to opening the scoring when her shot hit the post, but she made no mistake moments later, turning home a deflected effort from Chantelle Teare’s cross to beat Amelia Forkings. Swansea threatened a late equaliser, but Jess Williams’ effort from a Chivers corner also clipped the post. TNS held firm in the closing stages to secure all three points.
Aberystwyth Town recorded their highest points tally since the 2022-23 season, courtesy of a 4-1 win over already relegated Pontypridd United at Park Avenue. Bethan Roberts gave Aberystwyth the lead after only five minutes, before Amy Jenkins, Alaw Davies and Carys Bufton all found the net to complete a dominant first half display. Nicole Fenton pulled one back for Pontypridd seven minutes after the restart, but the damage was long since done as Aberystwyth returned to winning ways.
Barry Town United and Briton Ferry Llansawel maintained their unbeaten runs in Phase Two with a goalless draw at Jenner Park. Barry goalkeeper Molly Arnesen was the standout performer, making crucial saves to keep out three efforts from Maia Owen and a free kick from Lucy Powell. Briton Ferry remain a point clear of Barry at the top of the Plate Conference with one match remaining.
Genero Adran North
Felinheli inflicted second placed Llanfair United’s heaviest league defeat since October, triumphing 4-1 at Mount Field. Emma Williams gave Llanfair the lead on 27 minutes, but Alaw Huws levelled for Felinheli seven minutes before half time. Huws grabbed her second just before the hour mark, Catrin Evans added another soon after, and Jenna Tugwell-Allsup sealed the win with a stoppage time strike – her fifth goal of the season.
Bangor secured their first Genero Adran North victory since the opening day of the season, winning 2-1 away at Berriew. Two first half goals from Holly Owen-Roberts and Milly-Jessica Lowe put the visitors in command at the interval. Catrin Hopkins netted a late consolation for Berriew, but Bangor held on for maximum points.
Genero Adran South
Penybont climbed to third in the Genero Adran South table with an impressive 3-1 away victory over Pure Swansea. The first half remained goalless, but Cerys Jones put Penybont ahead just before the hour. Pure Swansea equalised from the penalty spot through Annabel Stokes ten minutes later but with a draw looking likely, Jones restored Bont’s lead in the 89th minute and substitute Mae Taylor wrapped up the three points deep into stoppage time.
