Glasgow City make double striker swoop

Glasgow City are happy to announce the signings of English attacker Katie Lockwood and American forward Rammie Noel from Icelandic side FH Hafnarfjordur, both on two–year-deals.

26-year-old Lockwood arrives at Petershill Park following a successful season in the capital with Heart of Midlothian where she played a key role in Eva Olid’s side obtaining a record points tally in the flight.

Personal acclaim would also come for the English forward when Katie was named in the 2023-24 PFA Scotland SWPL Team of the Season.

Comfortable playing across the final third, Lockwood has spent the last two seasons in Scotland’s top flight having arrived in 2022 at Hibernian before making the move to city rivals Hearts last term.

Speaking on her move to Glasgow City, Katie had the following to say: “I came and met Laura and Leanne and I was really excited to hear what they had to say and what Glasgow City are trying to do.

“I think that the rich history of the club and that expectation to win trophies was a big attraction so I want to push myself to win titles, trophies and hopefully experience the Champions League as well.”

Noel, a pacy attacker, had previously come through at top NCAA Division 1 College side LSU in her home state of Louisiana where she amassed 96 appearances scoring nine goals during her five year spell stateside before she heading to Iceland prior to arriving in Glasgow.

Rammie said on signing for Glasgow City: “It was a good opportunity and one that I couldn’t pass up. It felt like the right decision to make and I’m glad that I’ve made it.

“My hopes for this season is to make it as far as we can, hopefully that leads to the championship and the Champions League.”

Glasgow City Head Coach Leanne Ross said: "I am delighted to welcome Katie to Glasgow City.

"Whilst playing for Hibs and Hearts, Katie always caused us problems with her intelligent movement, creativity in possession and goal scoring threat. I admire the way she plays the game and believe she will add a different dimension to our attacking play for the season ahead.

"Her goal scoring record in the SWPL is excellent for an attacking midfield player and is something I hope she will continue to deliver and improve during her time at the club. With her knowledge and experience of the league, I have no doubt Katie will adapt quickly to her new teammates and surroundings and be ready to hit the ground running in the orange and black of Glasgow City."

“Rammie’s pace, athleticism and dribbling skills make her a dangerous attacking threat from wide areas. Her willingness to take on and beat players 1v1 and provide good quality crosses and shots off either foot will be a great addition to our attacking play. As well as bringing attacking flair, Rammie will also make a huge contribution to the team with her work rate and determination to press and win the ball back high up the pitch.

"From what I have seen of Rammie, it is clear she possesses a competitive streak and will to win that is synonymous with Glasgow City. We are excited to welcome her to the club and look forward to unleashing her attacking threat on the season ahead."
